May 31, 2014

Our route has changed again.  Now we will be in Jackson WY in August.  This is a great show not only because it has always been profitable but also because it is in one of the most beautiful places.
The grand Tetons and Yellowstone are right there as well as some amazing food.  This looks to be a great summer because we are doing some of our favorite shows and visiting some of our favorite cities.  Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Chicago as well as possible side trips through Sturgeon Bay and Sheboygan in Wisconsin will keep this trip interesting.
This year we will not be doing a show on either Lisa or my birthdays, nor are we forced to drive hundreds of miles on these days.  Between the number of shows and the timing this should be a very crazy, and busy summer.
See you on the road,
Jason

May 27th, 2014

The road is out there.  Harsh, long, most often straight and almost always hot. I hope there are no floods or crazy tornado inducing storms this year.  We have driven fast through places that you couldn't stop because the freeway is the only thing above water.  We have had to detour miles and hours out of our way because the freeway was no longer above water but just disappeared after the interchange into a new lake that had sprung up overnight.  I have parked next to the National Guard vehicle and gotten coffee from a MacDonalds that was still open.  We have driven between storm cells that were generating lightening every couple of seconds as the skies grew dark and the rain swept in, bringing hail and winds.
But the road is still out there, calling to us.  Making us go again.

See you on the road,
Jason

A Gypsy in Tailored Clothing

May 5th, 2014

I think about this life, this gypsy life.  I am home again after driving across thirteen states, only to pause long enough to clean my house from top to bottom, repair broken displays, make new hotel reservations and take to the road again.  Our daughter's too old now, doesn't like being cooped up in a car for days, only to share a hotel room with her parents in a city that she will probably only see at dinner time, so we travel with just our son.  He still seems to like the adventure.  He also likes coming to the shows and likes it when he is allowed to go and look at the booths by himself.  He has made friends wherever we have gone which makes me happy because as long as he can do this he will still want to travel with us.

This blog will be for random observations, comments, and stories of the craziness that is this life.  The life of a festival artist, roaming from town to town, setting up our little 10 by 10 store and living in hotel rooms and our car, only being truly home half the year.

See you on the road,
Jason
